Airport and terminal layout
Bellingham International Airport serves Whatcom County and travelers from the nearby Canadian border region. Commercial airline passengers use the terminal on Mitchell Way; the general-aviation terminal has a separate entrance on the approach road. Check-in, baggage claim, rental-car services and the airline gate area are concentrated in one manageable terminal complex. This makes navigation straightforward, but parking, airline check-in and border travel still require their own time allowances.
Driving directions and the airport approach
From I-5 take Exit 258 and follow West Bakerview Road to Airport Way, which becomes Mitchell Way. The airport’s commercial-terminal entrance is beyond the separate general-aviation entrance. Continue toward the terminal for parking, passenger drop-off or rental-car return, following the relevant signs. If booking a private facility, use its own address instead of the terminal at 4255 Mitchell Way.

Traffic and journey planning
Check WSDOT’s traffic and road-condition information for I-5 before leaving. Travelers arriving from Canada should add a separate border-crossing allowance and verify current entry requirements with the appropriate authorities. Rain, winter weather and queues at the border can affect the schedule even when the final airport approach is clear.

Official airport parking
The Port of Bellingham’s 2026 parking guide identifies the Main Lot immediately in front of the terminal and Economy A. These are airport-operated products with their own entrances and terms. The proximity of much of the parking makes walking practical for many passengers, but confirm the exact route and assistance needed for your lot. Airport assistance is available through the parking equipment. Do not confuse BLI airport parking with the Port’s separate cruise-terminal and Fairhaven parking facilities in another part of Bellingham.

Ground transportation and return transfers
Rental cars, taxis, prearranged shuttles and ride-app services are available around the airport. Whatcom Transportation Authority Route 3 serves the airport area from the Cordata and Downtown stations; check the current timetable before relying on it for an early departure or evening arrival. Public transit, hotel shuttles and an independent parking transfer are separate services, so confirm which one is actually included with your reservation.
Airport services and practical arrival checks
Free public Wi-Fi is available in the terminal, along with food, refreshments and travel essentials. The airport’s public information includes terminal services, lactation facilities and accessibility resources. Some facilities are beyond security, so check the terminal information before arranging to meet a passenger. For a cross-border journey, carry the documents required for your itinerary and verify the rules with the appropriate authorities before leaving home.
Accessible parking and passenger assistance
Use the Port’s accessibility guidance when planning a step-free route from parking to check-in. Reserve airline assistance in advance rather than depending on a request at the gate. If your chosen independent parking listing involves a shuttle, ask about wheelchair access, luggage handling and the availability of an accessible vehicle at your exact travel times. Keep the parking operator’s assistance details with your booking confirmation.
